DoIP routing activation and UDS
Keep the Ethernet connection, routing activation and diagnostic service response separate.
DoIP carries diagnostic messages
DoIP transports diagnostic communication over IP. Vehicle discovery and identification use their specified mechanisms; diagnostic messaging commonly uses a TCP connection. Logical diagnostic addresses are distinct from IP addresses.
Routing activation
Routing activation establishes the tester's diagnostic routing context subject to vehicle policy. A TCP handshake alone does not prove that activation is accepted. Diagnostic messages then identify source and target logical addresses.
Acknowledgment is not service completion
A DoIP diagnostic acknowledgment and a UDS positive response belong to different layers. A gateway can accept a message while a downstream ECU still fails to respond. For Ethernet-to-CAN routes, correlate the IP message with ISO-TP traffic and ECU processing.
